How Our Instruments Are Made
The Lien Violins Professional Series includes violins, violas, cellos and double basses in a wide range of sizes and grades. Each instrument is made with close attention to tonewood selection, workmanship, playability and tonal consistency, providing reliable options for students, educators, performers and distributors.
1. Tonewood Selection and Seasoning
Tonewoods are carefully selected and seasoned before construction to improve their stability and prepare them for instrument making.
2. Plate Carving
The top and back plates are individually carved and carefully graduated to achieve the desired shape, thickness and acoustic response.
3. Rib and Body Assembly
The ribs are shaped and assembled with the corner and end blocks before the body is carefully fitted and closed.
4. Scroll, F-Hole and Purfling Work
The scroll is carved by hand, the f-holes are precisely cut and refined, and the purfling is carefully inlaid to help protect the plate edges while enhancing the instrument’s traditional beauty.
5. Hand-Applied Varnish
Varnish is applied and polished by hand to enhance the natural beauty of the wood and create depth and character in the finish.
6. Final Assembly and Setup
Each instrument is carefully assembled, fitted and adjusted to ensure comfortable playability, responsive performance and a balanced tone.

Our manufacturing partner is based in Queshan, Henan, China, a region with an established string-instrument manufacturing industry. Skilled handwork and organized production support consistent workmanship across every instrument in the Lien Violins Professional Series.

Specialized teams carry out each stage of production, from woodworking and body construction to varnishing, assembly and setup. This coordinated process helps maintain consistent workmanship across different instruments, sizes and grades.
3. Organized Production and Quality Control
Instruments are carefully organized by type and production stage as they move through the workshop. Each instrument undergoes final assembly, adjustment and inspection before it is prepared for delivery.
4. Production and Quality Control for Global Partners
The Lien Violins Professional Series is manufactured entirely at our production partner’s workshop in Queshan, Henan, China. All stages of production, final assembly, setup, tonal adjustment and quality inspection are completed there.
With an experienced team and well-organized production facilities, the workshop provides reliable production capacity and consistent quality for distributors and educational programs worldwide. Instruments in this series are exported directly from China and do not pass through our Taiwan workshop.
This distinguishes the Professional Series from the David Lien Taiwan Workshop Series, which is made and prepared in Taiwan.
