Music China 2019 Shanghai

Lien Violins participated in Music China 2019 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre from 10 to 13 October 2019.

The 18th edition was the largest Music China held up to that time, bringing together 2,414 exhibitors and 122,519 visitors across 13 exhibition halls and 145,000 square metres. The four-day event offered an extensive view of the international musical instrument industry and its evolving market.

Products and Brands Presented

At the 2019 exhibition, we presented a clearer distinction between our two instrument lines: the Lien Violins Professional Series and the David Lien Taiwan Workshop Series.

We also introduced instruments and bows from brands represented by Lien Violins, including Rainer W. Leonhardt, Peter Siegfried Heffler and Arcos Brasil. The Vino Light 2.8 kg carbon-fibre cello case attracted attention for its streamlined form, light weight and practical design.

Presenting Yumba and Archet rosins at the booth also created more opportunities to speak directly with visitors. These conversations helped communicate the quality, professional preparation and product knowledge behind Lien Violins.

Industry Insights

The violin trade is a specialised field. Although the professional community is relatively small, instruments vary greatly in price, origin and playing characteristics, while related products are equally diverse and technically detailed.

Music China provided a valuable opportunity to observe new products, market developments and changes across the industry within four intensive days. Meeting fellow exhibitors and learning from their work gave us useful perspectives to bring back to Taiwan.

People and Connections

One of the most meaningful parts of the exhibition was welcoming musicians and friends from different regions. Local performers, players travelling from Europe and North America, violin and bow makers, dealers and other industry colleagues visited the booth to try instruments and exchange experience.

2019 also marked the centenary of Thomastik-Infeld. We were honoured to welcome members connected with the development and performance of Rondo strings to the Lien Violins booth and to record the occasion together.

We are grateful to every customer who chose an instrument at our booth, and especially to the friends who travelled from Taiwan or stopped by to support us. Music truly becomes a shared language at an international exhibition like this.
